Top Rated Beach and Nearby State Park: The beach on Cape San Blas was Voted #1 in the USA by Dr. Beach in 2002 due to it's pristine, white-sand beaches. The beaches are quiet, family and pet-friendly. The crystal clear waters and the low surf makes swimming very enjoyable - especially with small children.

The St. Joseph Peninsula State Park is just outside the Barrier Dunes complex, and features miles of white sugar sand perfect for sunbathing, snorkeling, and swimming. Canoeists, kayakers, birdwatchers and fishermen can spend hours or days enjoying the many adventures the beaches and the park have to offer.

A boat ramp is located at Eagle Harbor on the bay side where you can go fishing, kayaking, and scalloping!!

Resort-Like Amenities and More! : The Barrier Dunes community features two swimming pools (one beach-front), two lighted tennis courts, stocked freshwater fishing ponds, a children's play area, a boat cleaning station and boat parking area. The gated-community provides an added sense of safety and security for you and your family. Children can ride their bikes and use the boardwalks to get to the beach.

For the pet-lovers who choose to bring their pets, there are pet stations throughout the property to make it easy for you to pick up after your pet.

"Family Getaway"

"Perfect location for my family, we had a great time." — Susan Vinson Jul 05, 2019

"Great Stay"

"Overall a very smooth renting experience. Booking, communication, and stay were all easy. Condo was well stocked and we had a great time. Love Cape San Blas!" — Holly Morris Jul 02, 2019

"Great Get-a-way in a hidden gated community. Good and secure."

"Great place to stay with a large family. Very spacious with all of the comforts of home. Too many stairs though and some leaking of the roof was experienced in a sudden rain storm in one of the 3 bedrooms." — Anonymous Jun 25, 2019

"Beautiful condo!!"

"We love this condo, its so beautiful, relaxing and has everything you need for a good time on the beach! Its the best condo we have rented there and have rented it again for next year and hopefully many more years to come. Its also great to have Steffie and Bob who live right there manage it as if you need anything you just give them a call." — Patti Jani Dec 31, 2018

"Great beach and location. Plenty of room for our group of 6."

"Property need some updates, location was great. Cookware was good, but need more eating dishes. Property owner was good to communicate with and fast response. Enjoyed our stay in Cape San Blas." — Christie McDonald Jul 03, 2018

"Great vacation property"

"Wonderful vacation property.. almost everything you need for a great vacation..nice beach,, clean and safe gated community.
.Debbie and Steffie are wonderful to work with...love it!" — Patti Jani Dec 30, 2017

"Nice place, few inconveniences"

"It is a beautiful beach, and we had a great stay. The condo is in mostly good shape. However, the washing machine is full of sand and doesn't wash well, and the dryer vent to the outside must be completely clogged as the dryer barely dries and no air comes through the outside vent when the dryer is on. It was pretty inconvenient to stay with two kids and have no way to wash clothes.
The overall cleanliness was good, and we had most the supplies we needed, but there was no sponge or dishcloths we could find. The nearest grocery store is far, so again, not convenient to find out you have no sponge after you already went to the grocery store.
The complex says one of the pools is heated, either the heat was not turned on yet (early October) or it was inadequately heated.
We had a great relaxing stay though!" — Kelly Day Oct 05, 2017

"Great location! Needs some updates."

"We had a great time at Dunes Hideway! The unit was great for our family of five. The unit was clean and comfortable but it is in need of some maintenance and updating." — Pam Hylton Jul 16, 2017

"it was a comfy and spacious condo"

"We enjoyed our stay and so did our pets. Not too far to the beach. I do have a few suggestions if the owner wants to email me." — jonna wallace Jun 10, 2017

"This was our 4th trip to Barrier Dunes and was by far the worst property we've stayed in"

"This condo needs lots of repairs! Most doors did not shut or lock Washer has horrible odor and dryer takes 2 hours to dry a load. DVD player did not work. Outdated TV in living area had to be replaced with property managers personal tv because there was no cable in living room No vanity outlets worked Screen door hanging off. Mattresses were awful. Some lights didn't work. Only one key ( other key was broken so we locked ourselves out ) Final straw was no internet service! Property managers were awesome in helping make things better!!! Owners are being completely negligent with this unit!!" — Monica Grantham Jun 16, 2017

"Worn and dated but great location to both beach and pool"

"Dunes Hideaway is a little worn and dated, however it served all of our needs for our wonderful week in Cape San Blas. The views of the ocean from the decks and balconies are just amazing. The unit is nestled between a very convenient walk to the beach and pool/tennis courts. The sliding glass doors are extremely hard to open, even for adults. The outdoor shower unit does not work properly, so rinsing off completely after a day at the beach is a little difficult. The management company was extremely easy and friendly to work with after being made aware of these issues." — Tiffany Yatzek Apr 01, 2017

"Complex was fine and liked location to the beach, but unit leaves much to be desired."

"This unit is rough around the edges and very worn. Needs updating and better maintenance. The master bedroom has a floor air conditioning unit with a duct running out to the deck at the sliding glass door. We gently tried to draw the curtains at the sliding glass door and the drapery rod fell down. The sliding glass doors are extremely hard to open. There were light bulbs out that needed changing. The vacuum cleaner was left on the stairs and dirty sheets and towels were on a pile in one of the guest rooms upon our arrival. The towels that are supposed to be clean are stained and old. Overall cleanliness is very poor." — Melinda Briley Oct 14, 2016

"Great beach condo on a beautiful cape!"

"This was our first trip to the Cape and we thoroughly enjoyed it. The complex is well maintained with good amenities (pools, tennis), but the real feature is the beach. It is BEAUTIFUL with white sand and crystal clear water. We were there spring break week, so there were a lot of families at the beach, but it was still very pleasant. To get away from it all, drive <10 minutes to the beaches and bay in the State Park. Kayaking in the state park was a highlight of the trip.

The condo is 'as advertised'. The rooms are very spacious. The kitchen is basic, but has everything you need (and a better selection of pots/pans and knives than most rentals.) The condo was very clean. If I had one complaint it would be about the couch in the living room - which isn't terribly comfortable - but who spends time in the living room when you are at the beach!

Cindy was super responsive as I changed details on our reservation. And I received my deposit back very promptly - within 2 business days. We would definitely go back again! " — Anonymous Apr 04, 2015

"Truly a Perfect Beach Escape"

"Dune's Hideaway is a fantastic place to stay, and it's just steps from the water. There are stunning views from the master bedroom, main level and one of the upstairs rooms, and the amenities are great (2 pools, tennis court, grill, etc.). We traveled to Dune's Hideaway for July 4th, and it was such a great value. The area is very secluded and the beach was not overrun with people. Everyone just leaves their stuff on the beach at night, and this is only possible because of the seclusion. Though there is not much to do on the Cape, but it is not a bad drive to get to the mainland and the seclusion is worth it. For pet owners, the beach and area are dog friendly and our dog LOVED it. If you're looking for an affordable vacation place - whether you're traveling with friends or family, this is the place to go. You will not regret it.

Also, you won't find more attentive property managers. Cindy and Debbe were super responsive and easy to work with. That is sometimes hard to get when you are dealing with rentals." — Michael Gray Jul 02, 2014

"The property was clean and well maintained. We had everything we needed for a great vacation! Just a few steps from the beach and it was so peaceful and relaxing. We look forward to going back next year." — Anonymous Jun 19, 2014

"Perfect place to stay with kids and dogs!"

"Property was well maintained and leasing company responded immediately to us while we were there. Furnishings were clean and well maintained. Kitchen well stocked, towels in all bathrooms were big and fluffy. Access to beach very convenient. Nice extras like a large tent and chairs to use on the beach. " — Anonymous May 22, 2014

"A perfect vacation!"

"Our family vacationed at Dunes Hideaway in June 2011. I really had no idea what to expect because we had never been to Cape San Blas. I can wrap up our experience in one word: Perfect. From the time we arrived all the way through checking out of the house, our vacation was relaxing and enjoyable. The beach house had absolutely everything we needed and was in great order. Beds are comfortable, and with the sleeper sofa, it comfortably accommodated our party of 6 adults and 5 kids.
There is a boardwalk directly accessed from the back patio that makes the short walk to the beach very easy – even with a 4 year old and a 1 year old baby. The beach is amazing with white sand, beautiful dunes and emerald waters. We walked for miles and miles enjoying the natural, protected beachfront . There are no high-rise hotels or condos on Cape San Blas – so the number of people on the beach is very limited. The privacy allowed us to leave our beach tents, chairs, toys out in the sand over night without worry.
The full kitchen had everything we needed to cook meals. With the kitchen bar and ample table space, eating together as a family was no problem. We ate some meals out on the deck. Checking in at Dunes Hideaway was a breeze as was the check-out procedures. Transactions were handled with extreme professionalism and care. This is a great vacation destination that we will definitely visit again. I strongly recommend this gem if you want to get away and relax.

"Our 4yr olds first beach trip!"

"This was our first Family Beach trip , and for my wife, 4yr old and 4month old son's it was their first trip to the Nature Coast (6 day trip). I looked for 2 weeks for the right rental. There were only 4 of us so I couldn't justify the $1400+ weekly rates of the individual homes on the Cape, also they had way more room than we needed. This Condo was a great value to me, it was comfortable with all the items we needed to cook and wash clothes for our family of 4 (up to 6 comfortably). It felt like home to us. There is a boardwalk right off the back steps that take you about 75 feet to the Gazebo in the above pictures, we found that everyone leaves their flip flops on the gazebo and hits the sand. Once on the beach we found that we had 100' between us and our nearest beach go'er to the left or right, however if you walk a short ways you can have all the space you want to yourself. It’s almost like a step back in time as everyone leaves their chairs and umbrella’s on the beach, rather than taking them in every night, and no one messes with your stuff. We also found that the other residences were really nice and a lot of them had friendly dogs that we enjoyed petting. We were there in late September 2011 and the water was very clear and the crabs were plentiful. I purchased a fishing pole and left it for the next guest to use, I won’t be using it here in TN. The spoon that is tied to the line works great for catching Lady Fish, they put up a good fight and often spit the hook. ( Lady Fish are not good to eat, just fun to catch) or you can stop at the local Trading Post 3 miles away and pick up some live bait. We also left behind some kids sand toys, 2 buckets, 2 shovels and some various other stuff. There is a closet by the outdoor shower area with a hand air pump and various pool float’s, it also has a beach umbrella, 6 chairs a body board, a skim board so you don’t need to bring much in the way of beach equipment. Haul some chairs and toys out to a plot of sand and leave it there all week. There is a nice size pool overlooking the beach, 3’ on one end and 5 ½’. If you have young kids like me they will enjoy the pool a little more than the waves of the ocean. All in all this was perfect place for us, the right size, the right price and remote enough our 4 year old could run around without us worrying. My wife has requested that we rent this place again next year. We are putting our request now Sheila :) The Dawson's Murfreesboro, TN." — Jason Dawson Sep 20, 2011

"Dunes Hideaway is a special and peaceful place"

"We are from the Canadian East Coast, and have been to Cape San Blas previously. We spent 2 months (February and March 2011) at the Dunes Hideaway, so beautifully situated in Barrier Dunes and Cape San Blas. We experienced a glorious spring and were completely charmed by both the beach and the beautiful setting at the Dunes Hideaway (south-facing decks and beautiful Gulf views). Not only did we delight in being so close to the Gulf, but also Sheila successfully prepared the lovely condo to accommodate our chemical sensitivities. It was perfect. We are huge fans Cape San Blas, Barrier Dunes and now the Dunes Hideaway. It has to be one of the most dog-friendly places in the US – Saki the Shiba Inu could not have been happier. It was a wonderful escape from Canadian winter. The Dunes Hideaway is a very special and peaceful place." — null null Feb 05, 2011

"Fantastic weekend at Dunes Hideaway!"

"We spent a long weekend at Dunes Hideaway in April and had a wonderful time. The townhome was more than we expected - it was clean and spacious and very close to the beach. Our two young girls loved making sandcastles and digging in the sand on the beach. We look forward to a return trip to Dunes Hideaway for more beach adventures, and would recommend this unit to families or couples looking for a weekend away.

"A Gem for People & Pets Alike!"

"My little dog, Chauncey, and I made our first trip to Cape San Blas in the spring and stayed at Dunes Hideaway. Chauncey had never been to the beach before and he loved it! I enjoyed staying at a place that is so pet friendly, as well as close to the beach. I definitely recommend this townhome to other pet owners who want to take their pets on vacation with them. Dunes Hideaway is a hidden gem for people and pets alike!" — Sheila Gatlin Apr 24, 2010
